Drain Cleaning: What We Actually Do

  1. High-pressure jetting. A forceful stream scours the pipe wall clean, taking silt, grease and general grime with it.
  2. Electric eel clearing. A rotating cutter head cuts through roots and solid blockages a jetter alone can't shift.
  3. Grease and scale cuts. Old kitchen build-up gets cut right back to bare pipe rather than simply pushed further along.
  4. Preventative maintenance runs. A scheduled clean for a drain that blocks repeatedly keeps it flowing between problems.
  5. Post-clean camera check. Where available, a CCTV pass proves the pipe is genuinely open, not just running quieter.
  6. Follow-up advice. We'll flag if a clean is a genuine fix or a stopgap for a drain that needs a repair instead.

Signs You Need Drain Cleaning

A drain that's simply dirty, rather than damaged, usually shows up in one of these ways first.

  • Everything drains a bit sluggishly, without any single dramatic blockage.
  • An odour hangs around near a kitchen sink or an outdoor drain.
  • Grease or scum is visible at the surface of standing water.
  • Leaves and debris sit banked up around an outdoor grate.
  • The same drain needs clearing every few months without any other cause.
  • A gurgling sound comes from a sink or floor waste occasionally.

Drain Cleaning in Epping Homes

A lot of Epping's earlier housing sits on drainage laid decades ago, back when the old orchard blocks were first carved into streets. That old clay wants softer jetting pressure than modern PVC can shrug off, since ageing joints don't cope well with the same force.

Newer builds near the station, part of the wave of development since the 2000s rezoning, generally run PVC drains that handle a stronger jet without issue. On Cambridge Street and the older blocks around it, we adjust pressure to the pipe rather than running one setting for every job.

That distinction between eras of pipe is one of the first things we check before turning any equipment on.

It also decides how often a drain needs cleaning in the first place. An older clay line under a leafy street tends to need a repeat visit sooner than a newer PVC connection would, simply because roots have more opportunities to find their way in.

Drain Cleaning Pricing: What Moves the Quote

A few practical things set the price, worked out before any gear leaves the van.

  • The drain's length and the sheer amount of build-up needing clearing.
  • Access to the drain, including whether it's a simple outdoor point or further inside.
  • Whether jetting alone clears it or an eel is needed for roots or solids.
  • How old the pipe is and what it's made from, since clay wants a gentler touch.
  • Whether a repeat blockage means it's really a repair job in disguise.

The exact number gets confirmed with you before work begins, on top of our standard $0 call-out fee.

Jetting or the Eel: How We Choose

The two main tools do genuinely different jobs, and using the wrong one wastes a trip.

High-pressure jetting is best for grease, scale and general build-up along the pipe wall, since the water pressure scours the inside clean rather than just punching a hole through the blockage.

An electric eel with a cutter head is what actually cuts through roots or a solid obstruction a jetter would just push against. On Epping's older clay lines, we'll often run the eel first to clear roots, then jet to flush the remaining debris out properly.

Using the wrong tool for the blockage either wastes time or risks the pipe itself, so we match the method to what the camera or a first pass actually shows.

Jetting alone won't remove a root mass that's already grown solid inside a joint. The eel's cutter head deals with that first, and jetting afterwards clears whatever the cutting leaves behind, so the line is properly open rather than just punched through.

How the Job Runs and How Long It Takes

Fixed quote first. We assess the drain and agree the price before anything starts.

Right method for the pipe. Jetting, the eel, or a combination of both, chosen to suit whatever's actually in there.

Clear and confirm. We run water through afterward to prove the pipe is properly open.

Tidy up. The site's left clean, and we'll flag plainly if what we found points to a repair down the track.

What NSW Requires for Drain Cleaning

A routine clean itself sits outside licensing rules, but anything beyond that, repair included, is licensed plumbing territory in NSW, and #465156C is our number for it.

Where jetting or clearing reveals damage, any repair follows AS/NZS 3500 plumbing standards, explained plainly before any further work is quoted.

Nothing about a routine clean requires council or authority sign-off, since it's maintenance on your own pipes rather than any change to the connection itself.

Common questions

Common Drain Cleaning FAQs

How should I prepare before a drain cleaning visit?

If you can, point us to where the drain has played up before and clear the way to the nearest outdoor gully. We'll handle the rest on arrival.

What's the price for drain cleaning?

Drain cleaning starts from $89, with the final number depending on access and how much build-up needs clearing. You'll have the fixed price before we start.

Is drain cleaning backed by your lifetime labour warranty?

The clean itself doesn't carry a warranty the way a repair does, since there's no fix to warrant. Any repair work that comes out of the visit is covered by our lifetime labour warranty.

Does the blockage come back after drain cleaning?

Not usually, if the cause was grease, leaves or general build-up rather than actual pipe damage. A blockage that returns quickly is often a sign the drain needs a proper look rather than another clean.

Is same-day drain cleaning available?

Yes, we treat it the same as any other call-out and get someone moving straight away.

What tools do you use for drain cleaning?

A choice between high-pressure jetting and an electric eel, picked once we know what's actually causing the blockage and which pipe it's sitting in.
